Bloomberg also praised Prince William for building on the commitment of his father and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022), to protecting the environment. “There was no Nobel Prize for work to save the planet, so he decided to create one,” Bloomberg said of the Earthshot Prize, which William established in 2020.
The heir to the British throne previously held a personal meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who thanked him for his support of the Earthshot Prize. The award aims to support possible solutions to problems in the field of environmental protection. Each year, five projects are recognized at the awards ceremony, each supported by a financial prize of £1 million.
At the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit in the USA, which featured the Prince of Wales, the 15 finalists for this year’s awards ceremony were announced. It will be held on November 7 in Singapore. William himself is expected to be there as well.
