The PS5 home screen is receiving a cloud streaming update

Cloud streaming of PS5 games has been possible since last Monday, as Sony made a small update to the PS5 home screen. At the moment, this is only suitable for PlayStation Plus Premium users.

If a PS5 game is available as a cloud stream, this will now be indicated by a small icon directly behind the title. This tells you right away whether you can save on the sometimes large downloads and start playing right away instead – a crucial advantage of cloud gaming.

This is what cloud gaming on PS5 offers

PlayStation Plus Premium users now have the opportunity to play select PS5 games via cloud streaming. This includes the best PS5 songs from the PlayStation Plus game catalog such as Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West And Ghost of Tsushimabut experiments are available, incl Hogwarts Legacy, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt And Callisto Protocol.

Cloud streaming also includes features such as downloadable content (DLC), in-game purchases, high-quality resolution options, enhanced audio, screenshots, and video recordings.

With cloud streaming, your saved game is also automatically saved to the cloud, making it easier to sync your saved games between different devices. This means that scores and trophies will be retained even if you use the game regularly and do not stream it.

PS5 game cloud streaming supports resolutions up to 4K at 60Hz. Recommended internet speed of 52 Mbps. For Full HD, the speed is about 23 Mbit/s. The minimum requirement for 4K is 38 Mbit/s and for Full HD at least 15 Mbit/s.

It’s not clear if cloud gaming will eventually be offered outside of PlayStation Plus. However, this is part of Sony’s long-term strategy, which should gain momentum starting in 2025. The new PlayStation Portal will also theoretically be able to run PS5 games directly from the cloud at some point.
