Feinstein’s offices could not immediately be reached for comment.
The California Democrat was recently the Senate’s most senior senator. In February, she announced that she would not run again in next year’s elections for health reasons. Recently, due to her health condition, she has faced calls for her resignation, including from her party colleagues.
Feinstein held many high-ranking positions during her long political career, and as a woman, she was often a trailblazer. From 1978 to 1988 she was the first woman to serve as mayor of San Francisco, and in 1992 she was the first woman elected to the powerful California state Senate. She was also the first woman to serve on the Judiciary Committee and the first woman to chair the Intelligence Committee.
