It has never been so hot on the island. In summer, even over 40 degrees was measured for the first time.

According to the Met Office, 2022 will be the hottest year in Britain since records began in 1884. The average temperature will be higher than the 9.88 degrees Celsius recorded in 2014, the Meteorological Department said. Mark McCarthy of the Met Office said all months except December were warmer than historical averages.

“A warmer year is consistent with the actual impacts we expect as a result of human-caused climate change,” McCarthy said. Climate change continues to increase the likelihood of warmer years in the coming decades. During the summer, temperatures in Great Britain exceeded 40°C for the first time.

In Switzerland, 2022 was also the warmest year since measurements began in 1864, and in France 2022 was the warmest year in more than 100 years.
