Weston orders mandatory shelter in place order

MONDAY, 7:30PM: The town of Weston has issued a mandatory shelter in place order. Approximately 98% of homes in town are without electrical power at this time, and the wind speed is increasing.

“Conditions have rapidly deteriorated in the last two hours,” said First Selectman Gayle Weinstein. She said most roads in town are impassible due to downed power lines and trees. There have been some reports of trees falling on homes, she said, but as long as no one is injured, people are asked to stay where they are.

“The wind is so severe, we can’t send emergency responder workers out to get to them… People need to stay put.”

Almost 400,000 CL&P customers are without power across the state. And, more than 33,000 United Illuminating customers have no power.
