Science alone does not advance us

PlusOur author considers the fact that no reliable results have yet been published on the topic of pollen is questionable.

When the Bavarian State Office of Health set up a pollen-measuring station on the roof of the district clinic about four years ago, it was said at the time that observations should be made first. So we watched and watched and watched. Indeed, observation is an important method of scientific work. As is well known, good things take time. The fact that the State Health Office has not yet reported any preliminary reliable results after such a long time now seems at least questionable. Particularly because it is by no means the case that pollen research in general is lacking in studies, as the state office has suggested. They are connected badly.

The problem usually lies in the fact that in science it is often difficult to unambiguously prove complex chains of effects. However, if the carbon dioxide turns out to be higher2Concentration in the air and higher air temperature is associated with a higher concentration of pollen and if at the same time it appears that the air temperature is higher in cities and higher atmospheric carbon dioxide2Concentration reigns supreme, and no scientist will lose his head when he calls these connections. Even if not every overlapping variable has been unequivocally ruled out yet. Especially when the highly susceptible plant species have actually increased in cities over the past 30 years. Science should serve people, not science.
