Seville (dpa) – Colombian pop singer Shakira won three Latin Grammy Awards at a ceremony held in Seville, southern Spain. The awards ceremony was held outside the United States for the first time. Shakira received awards, among other things, for her latest song “Music Session #53” with Argentine producer Bizarrap. Three more Grammy Awards went to Colombian singer Karol G (“Mientras Me Curo Del Cora”) on Thursday night.
Shakira presented the awards to her two young sons, who were in the audience, as we saw on the state television channel RTVE. “I promised them I would be happy,” said the 46-year-old, who separated from their father, former professional footballer Gerard Pique, in 2021. She explained that there is nothing in the past, for her it is only about the future.
The future doesn’t look quite as rosy for Shakira right now. As of Monday, she will be in the dock in a criminal tax case in Barcelona. She is accused of tax evasion totaling approximately 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is demanding a prison sentence of eight years and two months and a fine of 23.8 million euros. Shakira denies these accusations.
The Latin Grammy Awards have been presented annually since 2000 by the Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. So far, the locations have only been cities in the US, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Las Vegas.
