Thornton makes the end of his career official

Joe Thornton has officially announced his retirement. The 44-year-old Swiss-Canadian played his last NHL game with the Florida Panthers in May 2022. “I thought you would find out sooner, but you kept asking,” he said in a video from the San Jose Sharks, where he played for about 15 seasons. So here I am saying: I resign.” Thornton also excelled in the National League: playing for HC Davos in the 2004/05 and 2012/13 seasons and on loan in 2020/21. He also mostly completed his summer preparations in Graubünden. In a total of 24 NHL seasons, the 44-year-old has played the sixth-most games in history (1,714) and amassed 1,539 points (430 goals, 1,109 assists).
