Hanover/Charlotte. In Hanover, the Guild brewery is converting its traditional headquarters in the southern part of the city and wants to open a large brewery restaurant in 2025. The Guild USA project has served as a model for the gastro experience in Hanover, says union president Mike Gaertner.

The union has owned a microbrewery and brewery there since February 2021. “Why should we have something like this in America, but not at the headquarters in Hanover?” People asked themselves – and acted.
Guild in Charlotte: Named after the Queen of Hanover
The union’s overseas branch is located in an industrial park in Charlotte (North Carolina). The city was named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of George III, King of England and later Elector and King of Hanover. She is the true Queen of Hanover.

With about 300 seats, American Guild has about the size of the brewery’s planned restaurant in Hanover. Events are celebrated there regularly, the most recent being of course Oktoberfest. 1,500 people were counted in one day, says Gartner: an absolute record. “Americans love Oktoberfest.” They are particularly fascinated by the year the guild was founded: 1546. Because it falls before the year the United States of America was founded (1776).
The American union wants to grow
Charlotte’s brewery production is almost bland compared to Hanover: 3,000 to 5,000 hectoliters a year – and in Hanover it was recently 750,000. But now they are supplying nearby restaurants – and they want to grow, Gärtner announced.
