St Quentin-en-Yvelines (DPA) – The highly-changed German women’s quartet’s successful streak has ended at the Track Cycling World Championships in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
Tokyo Olympic champions Mickey Krueger and Franziska Prause missed the medals, along with newcomers Lena Charlotte Reisner and Lana Eberl. With a time of 4:15.017 minutes, the quad improved by about two seconds over qualifying, but missed the junior final with the sixth fastest time.
The German four have won almost everything in the past two years. After the gold medal in Tokyo, the quartet, who took the Sports Gala Team of the Year title, also won the 2021 World Cup and the 2021 and 2022 European Championships. After the 2022 European Championships in Munich, however, multiple world champion Lisa Brennauer ended her career. In addition, Lisa Klein decided not to participate in the World Cup due to health problems. Successor Laura üßmilch has yet to fully recover from her fall injury at the Tour de France.
The final will be played on Thursday evening between Great Britain (4: 10.109) and Italy (4: 11.562).
