Basketball – German basketball players in front of the summer World Cup thriller – Sport

Espoo (dpa) – After successfully completing the World Cup qualifiers, basketball players are returning to their clubs. In the coming weeks, club professionals will need to get a good starting position in the play-offs or avoid relegation.

National coach Gordon Herbert and officials of the German Basketball Association will continue planning for the upcoming World Cups in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia in the summer. Interesting weeks ahead of the tournament on August 25 are already on the horizon.

The World Cup draw is at the end of April

At the start of August, Herbert will probably gather his extended World Cup squad around him in Bonn. Then the first NBA pros should already be there. A total of about three weeks of preparation was planned. One of the highlights again will be the Super Cup in Hamburg, with China, New Zealand and Canada taking part in the second weekend in August, according to dpa info. Another test match against the Canadian team is also scheduled, as Herbert was part of the coaching staff prior to taking over as Germany’s national coach. If all goes according to plan, there will be two more important events on the way to the World Cup. Herbert’s team is scheduled to play test matches in Abu Dhabi against the USA and Greece with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The next important date for German basketball players is April 29th. Then the draw for the World Cup groups will take place in Manila. The ceremony, which will take place in the Philippine capital, will also determine the venue where Herbert’s team will play the preliminary and intermediate round matches. Manila, Okinawa (Japan), and Jakarta (Indonesia) are eligible.
