Hamburg (dpa/lno) – The second division soccer team Hamburger SV is using its free time during the World Cup in Qatar to travel to the USA. As the club announced at the weekend, the professional team will travel to California from November 13-22 following the end of the first half of the season in the second division against SV Sandhausen (November 12, 1pm/Sky). There, on November 15 (4:00 CET) in Irvine, a Test match against second-tier football club Orange County is on the agenda.
“For HSV, this tour is a very attractive opportunity to represent the Bundesliga, German football and our club internationally and gain experience,” said Jonas Boldt, Director of Sports at HSV, also with a view to marketing. “Joint experiences and unique days in the US will also strengthen the team together and shorten the long winter break (from mid-November to the end of January 2023),” added the 40-year-old.
Residency in the US has a long tradition among the Hanseatic League: Rothussen actually visited the US seven times between 1950 and 2000. In addition to the match against OCSC, which is already scheduled, there should be at least another Test game this year. However, the discount and location have not yet been determined. The support program awaiting coach Tim Walter and his team will be planned in detail in the coming weeks.
