Individuals not directly affiliated with Weston public schools will not be permitted on the District’s property during the planned student walkout on Wednesday, March 14, school officials said in a press release. Weston school campus reopened, bus routes may be impacted

With most of the power restored in Weston, the school campus has re-opened as of Monday, March 12. In an announcement from Weston Public Schools to parents and families, they said there are several roads in Weston that may still not be safe for bus travel. Dave Lustberg, WPS Director of Transportation, worked all weekend with the Weston Police Department to prioritize the repair of damage in areas that affect the school bus routes. Weston schools close tomorrow, power outages are steady in Easton, Redding, Weston

Due to excessive power outages, downed lines, and trees blocking roads (including on campus), Weston public schools, district offices and full campus will be closed on Friday, March 9. All day and evening activities also are cancelled.  The district asks people to refrain from coming on to the campus unless except for staff directly involved in maintenance and clean-up. Westport administrator hired to lead Weston pupil personnel services

The Weston Board of Education announced on Monday, March 5, that it has appointed Michael L. Rizzo as Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services. Rizzo will start the position on July 1, replacing Lois Pernice who is retiring after 11 years as Director of Pupil Personnel Services. He will be the first person hired for the newly-created position of Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services. Weston superintendent approves student walkout

In a letter to Weston parents dated Thursday, Feb. 22, Schools Superintendent William McKersie said the district is allowing Weston High School and middle school students to participate in National School Walkout day on March 14. The date marks one month after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., where 17 people were killed. Weston’s Board of Education discussed safety and security initiatives in the wake of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The discussion, at the school board’s regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Feb. 26, also featured Weston police Chief Edwin Henion and Capt. Matthew Brodacki. Weston school resource officer launches website

A new website for Weston parents has been started by school resource officer Joe Mogollon.

Weston’s school resource officer (SRO), Joe Mogollon, has started a website to help inform Weston parents of his duties and to share helpful resources designed to keep students safe. “I attend a lot of PTO meetings and talk to parents pretty often,” said Mogollon. “A lot of times parents can’t make meetings or don’t have the chance to talk, so this website is to help them see what I’m doing at the schools.” With the guidance of Weston High administrators, Mogollon launched the website in December. In the wake of the school shooting that left 17 people dead at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., Weston Superintendent William McKersie released a five-page memorandum outlining the district’s safety and security measures. Weston school board says no theater cuts

Weston’s Board of Education is proposing a total expenditure of $171,607 for the theater arts program, a 4.7% increase from fiscal year 2017. Despite this increase, Weston’s theater community is concerned about changes coming in the proposed budget. Last year, the district spent $84,826 on the program, with an additional $79,007 from the student activities accounts. This amounted to a total of $163,833. This year, theater program coordination will be funded by a stipend included in the program’s budget expenditures.
