Water jumpers Tina Bunzel and Lou Messeenberg are the European champions in the three-meter board synchronized mixed competition. Christina Wassen received another medal from the tower.

The duo from Dresden and Berlin on Wednesday (17/8/2022) won the first medal for the German water jumpers and repeated their gold flip at the 2018 European Championships.

The duo Punzel/Massenber earned 294.69 points for their five jumps. Great Britain’s Grace Reed/James Heatley (290.76) and World Championship runner-up Chiara Bellacani/Mathew Santoro (283.56) relegated to the medal ranks.

Confirmation of the work of the past years

“It went better than I thought,” Bunzel said. “I was more dependent on the Italians.” The goal was to restore training performance. “The fact that we can now be at the top again after 2018 is an incredible confirmation of the work we have done in recent years,” said the Dresden native. Masenberg added, “I was shivering before the last jump. But when I touched the water, I knew it was good enough for a medal.”

Wasn on a pedestal

Christina Wassen was responsible for the second medal of the day in water jumping. In the competition from the tower, Berliner scored 314.10 points and took third place. The gold went to Britain’s Andrea Spindolini Sirix with 333.60 points, ahead of Ukraine’s Sovega Liskun (329.80 points). The second German, Pauline Pfeif, came in fourth.
