As doomsday-like scenarios unfold in New York, a female sea lion briefly escaped from her swimming pool at the Central Park Zoo. While heavy rains flooded the zoo grounds, the animal took advantage of its opportunity and made its rounds, but then returned to its companions.
According to the New York Times, she is said to have explored her surroundings before returning to the aquarium. On Friday at 3pm (local time), when the water had already receded, all the animals returned to the pool. According to zoo staff, the animals were not in danger at all.
City Parks Department employees were able to view the sea lion from their offices on the third floor. One employee is said to have said: “We saw the animal swimming around the area and then it jumped back.”
