For Verstappen, it was his 17th win of the season in the 20th race, extending his record. With the 52nd success of his career, the 26-year-old Red Bull star is just one Grand Prix win away from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Today’s duel took place behind Verstappen and Norris. On the final lap, Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull car passed Alonso to third place at the start, then allowed him to pass again after a swerve that was difficult to understand from the outside. Aston Martin driver Alonso came in third place, while Perez expanded his lead in the world championship standings over his chaser, Lewis Hamilton, to 32 points in the struggle for second place.

Failed start

Otherwise, there was excitement at Interlagos, especially at the beginning, because the first attempt at the launch failed. The field only reached the first corner before the safety car was deployed. The collision between Williams’ Alexander Albon and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, which also involved teammate Nico Hulkenberg, raised the red flag. After long cleaning and repair work, it was restarted after only half an hour.

Unlucky person

Charles Leclerc, second in qualifying, was no longer present at the start of the Grand Prix. During the warm-up lap, his Ferrari’s hydraulics failed, and Leclerc was no longer able to steer and ended up at the barriers. “Why do I always have such bad luck?” Monaco asked himself.

Not-so-glorious Alfa Romeo premiere

For the Alfa Romeo team, this was a race to forget. Neither Valtteri Bottas nor Guanyu Zhou were able to finish the Grand Prix – it was the first double failure of the year for the Hinwil-based team. Both the Finn and the Chinese complained of a technical glitch.

Brazil was the third to last stop of the 2023 season. Finally, the Las Vegas GP will take place on November 19 before the Formula 1 circus moves to the UAE. Verstappen and Co. will contest the traditional season final in Abu Dhabi on November 26.
