Hayley Faith Negrin, an 11-year-old from Weston, joined an elite group this past weekend when she won a Daytime Emmy Award for her voice work in the animated PBS children’s show Peg + Cat.

Hayley’s award for outstanding performer in an animated program was announced at the Daytime Creative Arts Emmys on Friday, June 20, in Beverly Hills, Calif. The mainstream Daytime Emmy Awards show was held and streamed live online Sunday night, June 22.

Hayley, who attends Weston Intermediate School, is the voice of title character Peg, an energetic young girl who, along with her “genius cat,” and some other friends, work their way out of tricky situations using math. The show, co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, aims to help children learn mathematics in an entertaining and humorous way.

Peg + Cat also took home the Daytime Emmy for outstanding pre-school children’s animated program. The show’s co-creator, Jennifer Oxley, won for outstanding production design (animation).

Peg + Cat may be seen weekdays on Connecticut Public Television at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
