This accident near Grindstone Hill Road closed Rt. 53 (Newtown Turnpike) in Weston in both directions early Thursday morning.
9:50AM — Rt. 53 (Newtown Turnpike) has re-opened to through traffic.
Police report that several people were transported to the hospital by ambulance from an accident earlier this morning. Injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.
9:30AM — Both the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 53 (Newtown Turnpike) between Ladder Hill South and Equestrian Trail (Singing Oaks area) in Weston are closed to all traffic. Motorists may use Valley Forge Road and Godfrey Road East as a detour.
Black ice caused an accident in the now-closed area of Rt. 53 earlier this morning, which police and emergency workers are in the process of clearing.
Police warn that black ice may continue to be a problem for motorists this morning and drivers should use caution.
