The Weston school board met for a regular meeting and budget workshop Tuesday, Jan. 22. The board is scheduled to hold a special meeting tonight, Thursday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Weston Public Library to approve the 2013-14 school budget to send to the Board of Selectmen.
The following are other school news items.
At the school board’s meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 22, the board was expected to ratify a memorandum of understanding with the Weston Teachers Association regarding payment for the teacher assigned to the Mock Trial program.
The teacher for the high school program will be paid an annual stipend. At the middle school, the teacher assigned will be paid an hourly rate for after-school and outside-of-school activities related to the program.
The memorandum with the teachers union also gives the teacher assigned to the Science Olympiad at Weston Middle School an annual stipend.
Lisa Wolak, principal at Weston High School, reported this week that the high school staff has completed seven draft reports required for the school’s accreditation. The reports are part of the district’s preparation for a visit from the New England Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the organization providing accreditation services.
Ms. Wolak said the reports reflect teaching and learning standards (practices that directly affect teaching and learning) and support standards (practices that support teaching and learning).
“Our next task,” Ms. Wolak said, “is to prioritize the strengths and needs that were generated by these reports, which will serve as a blueprint for our future work.”
Several new people joined the staff at Weston High School in January.
Math teacher Samuel von Kuhn replaces Kevin Fitzpatrick, who retired earlier this year.
Andrew Pasiuk will be taking over this semester for Marty Ogden as a social studies teacher.
