Connecticut Swimming hosted its “top 16” annual awards banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. This year, Weston Swimming’s Oscar Petersen, Kate Linell, Charlotte Proceller, Sophie Angus, Alli Pocsik, Mia Bullock and Samantha Kim all made the cut.
To be invited to this banquet, a swimmer needs to have posted one of the 16 fastest times in an event throughout the entire 2011-2012 short course season or the 2012 long course season. Seven swimmers in the top 16 is the most Weston has had in any of the last five years.
“In the 2011-2012 short and long course seasons, Weston had a swim team that was dedicated and committed to success,” said Weston head coach Ryan Loechner. “The hours our swimmers spent in the water at times felt endless, but our team did a tremendous job of pushing through and staying on top of their training. We had swimmers sacrifice other sports and long-time summer camps to unite as a team and accomplish their goals.
“As one of their coaches, I could not be happier with their success,” he continued. “Coaches can tell a swimmer what to do, but at the end of the day, it takes that individual’s strength to get behind a block and race hard to the finish. While the whole team contributed to the success of these seven swimmers, their individual efforts require extra praise. Talent alone does not get a swimmer to this level. These swimmers exemplified our team’s code of hard work, dedication, determination and teamwork to have success in their events.”
