A larger than usual field marked the season finale for the Weston High girls golf team last week.The Trojans were one of six teams competing at the South-West Conference tournament. It also featured a longer format with each team playing rounds of 18 holes.
When all the scores were added up the Trojans totaled 443, good for fourth overall on Tuesday, May 29, at Orange Hills Country Club.
Lauralton Hall was the winner with 396. Joel Barlow, a first-year team, was runner-up with 412. Masuk took third with 429.
Weston, however, did produce one of the top golfers for the day. Playing in her final high school match, senior captain Carlye Rosen shot a 93, tying her for third overall with Lauralton Hall’s Chelsea Donovan.
Rosen was also the only Weston golfer to shoot in the 90s. The Trojans’ next best round came from Joy Essaghof, who shot a 107, as did Bunnell’s Lauren Thomas.
The remaining Weston golfers shot in the 120s, including Kendra Savage, who shot a 120 on the nose. Three strokes later was senior captain Hannah Smith in her final high school match and completing the scoring for the team.
Also playing for Weston, Claire Cook finished with a 126.
