The League of Women Voters of Weston, together with five area leagues, will present Jeff Clements, author of Corporations Are Not People, as guest speaker at a special community presentation to be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Westport Town Hall at 7 p.m.
The event, co-sponsored with the leagues of Fairfield, Norwalk, Ridgefield, Wilton and Westport, will focus on the Supreme Court Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling, and will be open to the public.
A Massachusetts attorney, Mr. Clements is president and co-founder of the non-partisan Free Speech for People, and is spearheading its national campaign to challenge the creation of Constitutional rights for corporations and overturn the Citizens United decision.
In his presentation, he will discuss the history of corporate “personhood” in U.S. law, its impact on political campaign finance, and current national efforts to pass a Constitutional Amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision.
A brief Q & A will follow the presentation. Barnes & Noble will have copies of his 2012 book available for purchase at the event.
