The new school year begins Monday morning, Aug. 27, at all four Weston public schools — including the middle school, which was closed for construction all summer and right through this weekend.
Workers a the middle school were on site around the clock this past week, finishing the project and readying the school for students and teachers to return Monday.
The window and door replacement project at Weston Middle School also included abatement of PCBs in the caulking, which has been closely monitored throughout the summer by the environmental Protection Agency (EPA). A notice from the school district on Saturday said the EPA approved the opening of the school based upon all current environmental test results. The school was still awaiting results from one small area, but they were expected to be available over the weekend, and the EPA authorized the school to operate as normal with those areas closed off if the results were not back by Monday.
Weston High School (grades 9-12) and Weston Middle School (grades 6-8) begin the day at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. The school day for Weston Intermediate School (grades 3-5) and Hurlbutt Elementary School (grades pre-K-2) runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
