A string of first places helped the Weston High boys track team hold off the competition in its meet at Pomperaug last week.Overall, the Trojans brought home eight victories. Not only were these good enough to defeat the host Panthers 91-59 but also earned them victories over defending South-West Conference champ Brookfield (87-63) and Notre Dame of Fairfield (128-7).
Weston’s first win came at the start of the meet with the 4×800 relay team of Mike Aaron, Matt Proctor, Sam Augustyn and Brad DeMarco finishing in nine minutes, nine seconds. It dominated the relays, winning all three.
In the 1×400 Sebastian Valin, Zach Cannon, Jai Pritsker and Jon Savicky combined to run a 46.7. Near the end of the competition Noah Krassin, Dave Stankiewicz, Cannon and Savicky formed the 4×400 unit that won in 3:33.7.
A couple of relay runners also captured wins in individual events. Stankiewicz earned one in the 800 meters in 2:02. Savicky ran a 51.4 in the 400 to win that event.
For the field events the Trojans secured two win, including the shot put. Larry Cass had a toss of 40 feet, two inches to win it.
Also taking first place, Nick DiBartholomeo cleared 11 feet in the pole vault.
Now 5-1-1 overall, Weston visits Joel Barlow and also takes on Oxford on Tuesday in the last meet of the regular season.
