Boys track: Weston is ninth in Class M

trackA large field of opponents provided plenty of competition for the Weston High boys track team at the state Class M finals.

The Trojans were one of 28 teams represented at Willowbrook Park in New Britain last Wednesday, May 29. Each point was hard-fought as the Trojans totaled 28 to place nine overall, a point behind Rocky Hill.

Bloomfield was the winner with 139.33. Woodland was a distant second with 53 and Nonnewaug took third with 47.

Relays were the best events for the Trojans, who scored in all three. Their only gold medal came in the 4×400 as Simeon Okor, David Stankiewicz, Patrick Baber and Jonathan Savicky finished in three minutes, 25.66 seconds, beating their seed time.

Jake Matluck, Okoro, Bryan Lonergan and Savicky formed the 4×100 team that was fourth in 44.57. The Trojans took the same spot in the 4×800, which featured Noah Krassin, Cole Clark, James Murphy and Stankiewicz finishing in 8:18.11, 0.02 second behind third-place Montville.

Weston’s only other points came in the shot put as Larry Cass had a toss of 46 feet, nine inches for seventh.
