Even with one of its best scores of the season the Weston High boys golf team had little room for error in its match at Newtown.
For the third time this year the Trojans shot a 154, coming on Wednesday, May 15. It turned out they would need it as Newtown remained a threat until the last hole was played as the Trojans held on for a 154-156 win at Rock Ridge Country Club.
Two Weston golfers in particular had good rounds. Joe Klokus led the way with an even-par 35. Finishing with three birdies, he was co-medalist with Newtown’s Bryan LeBlanc.
Aaron Cohen was one stroke behind them with a 36. Max Catucci finished with a 41.
It was even closer when the Trojans visited New Milford the next day to finish the regular season. For the second time this year the two teams finished with the same aggregate score (168-168). The fifth player’s score from both sides decided the match, giving the Green Wave the win at Candlewood Valley Country Club.
The Trojans once again shared the medalist spot with their opponent. Asher Greenberg and New Milford’s Cole Case each shot a three-over-par 39.
Next came Nigel Poppy with a 41. Cohen was among three golfers to shoot a 42.
Kapel and Alex Watanabe finished with rounds of 46. Aaron Gaberman shot a 45 but as Weston’s sixth golfer his score was not factored into the result.
Weston, which finishes the season at 11-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the South-West Conference, plays in the SWC championship on Friday at Ridgewood Country Club in Danbury.
