The senator and the union boss want to fight the investigation

Republican US Senator Markwayne Mullin threatened to beat up a prominent union leader during the hearing. During Tuesday’s caucus meeting, the Oklahoma senator stood up and called out Sean O’Brien, president of the Teamsters Transportation Workers Union, to a fight.

“We can be two adults who agree and end it here,” Mullin said, adding that many of the arguments with O’Brien took place online. “Should we do it now? “Then get up your ass!” said Mullin. O’Brien replied: “Get up your ass!” and Mullin leapt from his seat.

Bernie Sanders, chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, immediately called Mullin to justify it. The well-known Democratic senator from Vermont ordered Mullin to sit down and warned: “You are a United States senator.” Sanders added: “God knows the American people have enough contempt for Congress. Don’t make it worse.” (sda/dpa)
