SSC Schwerin Volleyball Players: Short Preparation, Big Goals | NDR.de – Sports

As of: October 6, 2023 at 9:45 AM

The Bundesliga season for SSC Schwerin volleyball players begins on Saturday with an away match in Aachen – after just five days of joint preparation. This does not change the club’s title ambitions.

SSC Schwerin has once again set itself big goals for next season. The team wants to at least reach the finals of the German Volleyball League and Cup. Captain Anna Bojani went one step further and emphasized: “My goal is the German championship. I try to instill that in the team every day. The final is not enough for me.”

Last season, SSC won the cup and was eliminated from the tournament in the semi-finals against FC Potsdam.

Savelkoil and Holzig are still out of the tournament

However, due to the Nations League, European Championships and Olympic qualifiers, coach Felix Koslowski was able to train with almost the entire squad for the first time on Monday. Only newly signed Dutch overseas striker Flor Savelkoil (returning to training after a cruciate ligament tear) and German international Annegret Holzig (rehabilitating after a knee injury) remain out.

To make matters worse, there has been a major upset: Five players — including standouts Lena Alsmeier and Lindsey Rhodes — have left the Mecklenburg team. Koslowski has to integrate six new players: in addition to Savelkoil, these are outside forwards Laura Emmonts, Nova Maring and Linda Bock as well as middle blockers Meg Wolovic and Leandra Rexa Negri.

Koslowski sees the start of the season as a “challenge”

Accordingly, the 39-year-old, who has also come under pressure as coach of the Dutch women’s national team in recent months, admitted ahead of Saturday’s opening match (6pm) at the Women in Black in Aachen: “It will be a challenging match for us.” Clear. We haven’t played a match with this formation yet.”

Criticism of international gaming operations

With the second match against VC Neuwied 77 scheduled for next Wednesday (6pm), managing director Michael Evers said: “The quality of the players must be sufficient in the next two matches so that we do not lose ground.” He also did not hesitate to criticize international federations in light of the large number of competitions: “I do not think that the experiment was successful. What they expect from the players cannot be healthy in the long term.”

The Schwerin team includes nine national players from Germany, the Netherlands and Canada. After all, the reigning cup champions only have a duel against champions MTV Stuttgart in Rostock City Hall for the Super Cup on October 15. SSC is competing as host and then wants to be in a position to secure the team’s first home win in this competition.
