A British minister talks about the use of ChatGPT in government work

Melksham. The British Minister for Science and Technology, Michelle Donnellan, considers the future use of text bots such as ChatGPT in government work to be possible. Of course we need regulation, we need guarantees. But Donnellan told The Telegraph over the weekend while visiting a security company in Melksham, England, “We should never be afraid of these technologies.” “We need to think about the usefulness of ChatGPT – just like any other organization.”

ChatGPT is an application that uses artificial intelligence to generate dense responses to text input. The text robot can, among other things, answer questions in different languages, summarize and evaluate texts, write poems or computer programs.

According to The Telegraph, several areas of public administration have recently sent inquiries to the Ministry of Technology to clarify whether AI tools such as ChatGPT can be used for certain tasks — such as drafting emails or messages, or tasks that arise when drafting legal texts.

Experts see great potential in text bots, but also risks. For example, scientist Michael Osborne of the University of Oxford, who has been developing artificial intelligence for years, recently warned that ChatGPT and other language bots could “become a turbocharger for spreading disinformation and propaganda.” The time for far-reaching program organization is overdue.
