Great Britain stands by Ukraine
:
ESC 2023 will be held in one of these two British cities
England The ESC will be held in Great Britain in 2023 – even though Ukraine recently won the competition. The exact location is yet to be determined. Several British cities were chosen. Two of them now remain.
The Eurovision Song Contest will be held in either Glasgow or Liverpool next year. This was announced by the BBC on Tuesday. Earlier, British cities Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Leeds and Sheffield were also selected. A final decision is expected to be made this fall.
Britain is set to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, replacing Ukraine, which won this year’s competition in Turin with the band Kalush. This is already the ninth time that the ESC has been held in the UK.
For security reasons, the event cannot be celebrated in Ukraine, where the competition is still ongoing. Great Britain, as the runner-up, had already offered hosting months ago. The Brits have often stepped in as organisers.
“This is Ukraine’s party. We invite them to throw us at our house,” said this year’s ESC runner-up Sam Ryder after the decision to host Great Britain. “Here in England we know how to party.” Despite this move, the competition will celebrate Ukrainian culture, history and music.
Kalush singer Ole Bizjuk made a similar statement at the time. He is upset that the show will not go on in Ukraine. But: “We hope that Eurovision 2023 will have Ukrainian potential and celebrate our beautiful, unique culture,” Buick said, according to British news agency PA. He and his band will do anything to ensure that Ukraine wins in 2023 and that ESC 2024 is “held in a peaceful country”.
