Canadian women are the ultimate in women’s hockey. The Maple Leafs won their twelfth World Championship the day before yesterday.
In the finals, the eternal battle between Canada and the United States was repeated. In the preliminary round, the US women won 5:2, and in the final the team around captain Marie-Philippe Poulin had more staying power. This time, however, it wasn’t “MPP” who provided the decisive goals – Brian Jenner led his team to the gold medal with a brace. Canada won 2-1 in a hard-fought match.
It was Canada’s 12th title and 21st overall to take home the precious metal. Archival from USA has 9x gold and 21 medals. Czech Republic’s bronze was admirably secured, the first medal in their history. The Czech women finished third with a score of 4:2 against Switzerland.
This year’s title fights were held in Herning and Friedrichshafen, where the tournament will still be open in 2023.
