Two Weston gymnasts are on their way to Milwaukee, WI for the 2012 YMCA national championships.Rachel Esslinger and Mary Corcoran will be joining 12 other gymnasts representing the Wilton YMCA Gymnastics team.
The Weston residents stood high on the podium after a very successful regional championships in May. Esslinger, a level four competitor, placed third on the vault, second on the bars, beam, floor exercise and the all around. She was edged out of the first place spot by her friend and teammate Tessa Fieldman of Wilton.
Corcoran is a level nine competitor and competed for Weston High as a senior this year. During the high school season she had broken her foot on the balance beam in one of the season’s dual meets. She came back to compete in the YMCA regional championships, placing fourth on the balance beam, second on the floor exercise, and first on vault and the uneven bars and the all-around.
Another Weston gymnast, Casey Redcay also placed for her performance on beam.
