  • Suella Braverman recently described participants in a pro-Palestine demonstration as “Islamists.”

  • The London police, who are responsible for it, were also accused of turning a blind eye to legal violations.

  • Now she has lost her position as British Home Secretary.

British media reported that controversial British Interior Minister Suella Braverman has been sacked. The BBC, Sky News and others reported this on Monday, citing government sources.

The right-wing politician in the government of Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak had done so Recently, it has repeatedly sparked controversy. Before a large pro-Palestine demonstration, I wrote a commentary that was published in The Times.

Braverman is said to have stirred up hatred

In it, she accused the London Police, who are responsible for her as Home Secretary, of being blind in her left eye and of turning a blind eye to legal violations during “hate marches” against Israeli bombing. She referred to the participants in the demonstration as “Islamic mobs.” Several high-profile politicians, including opposition Labor leader Keir Starmer, then accused her of inciting hatred with her comments before the demonstration.

The allegations in a guest article in The Times were published without consulting the Prime Minister’s Office, a spokesman for Sunak confirmed last week. Therefore, this step was expected.

Did Braverman fire himself on purpose?

Braverman is considered a promising candidate for party leadership if, as expected, the Conservatives lose next year’s general election. The ruling Conservative Party lags far behind the opposition Labor Party in opinion polls. There was speculation that, through her criticism of the police and other right-wing populist statements, she wanted to position herself as a candidate for the party’s right wing and perhaps deliberately get her expelled.

According to estimates, Braverman’s dismissal will likely be accompanied by a major cabinet reshuffle. It is already clear that Secretary of State James Cleverly will take over for Braverman.
