HC Meran’s penultimate team responded to the table for a disappointing season in the Alps Hockey League and properly developed its defense.

Al-Nusour announced the signing of Canadian defender Stephen Desrocher on Sunday evening.

For the 26-year-old, this is his first appearance in Europe. He was still at the AHL (American Hockey League) camp in San Jose Barracuda as of Tuesday.

The 1.93m, 90kg defenseman from Toronto met super talent Conor McDavid and other famous NHL players in his career as a captain in the OHL (Ontario Hockey League). In 2015 he was drafted in the sixth round in 155th place by the Toronto Maple Leafs. At the end of the season, he played his first ECHL game with the Florida Everblades and immediately won the Kelly Cup.

“I think we have found a defender at Desrocher who will fit in well with our squad and would be a great addition to our defence,” said HCM President Stefan Kobler.
