Do you know the Uruguayan poet Orvilla Bardisio? Probably not – unless you are Uruguayan and have an interest in hair. What about the Russian poet Mikhail Muravyov? Aside from fans of Russian literature of the 18th century, it is probably not very well known here in this country either. These examples show that celebrities are an elusive phenomenon. Who is “known” depends not only on the reason why a person might be known. It also depends on the geographical, temporal or social environment in which one is looking for a celebrity. Some people who are notable to our ancestors are no longer so to us today; That’s why we don’t know all the celebrities on social media that our kids care about.
With the concept of “remarkable” for people French economist Morgan Lunan has also dealt with this recently. Together with her team, she created a database containing all the “famous” people who lived between 3500 BC and 3500 BC. And he lived in 2018. A total of 2.29 million entries can be found in it – but the list is far from complete. The database creation strategy was developed by Laouenan et al. It is summed up in this formula:
It is not explained why they chose the fracter alphabet for symbols. & Travel. It means the totality of all the “important” people in history. This group consists of 𝔉 And the ? Together Where & Dfr; Represents the people we know are important, and 𝔉 It includes the group of people who were once considered important, but whose importance or even their existence we have forgotten today. Logically, this collection cannot be part of any database. One can only hope that history will make it smaller and smaller over time.
So the group & Dfr; Related. Luanan and her team approach this in a special way: they swear & Dfr; In Wfr groups. and 𝔘 Where & Wfr; Contains all of the important people who have an entry on Wikipedia (or a related Wikidata project), the 𝔘 It includes all people whose significance is known in principle, but who have not yet made it to the Wikipedia entry.

Fame Scale
Of course, this approach has weaknesses, but the amount of data is difficult to build in any other way. While Wikipedia and Wikidata are not perfect, they are both freely available and can be evaluated by devices. Of course, you have to check and verify the data accordingly in order to somehow calculate a measure from it that makes ranking based on celebrities possible. For this, experts use, for example, the length of the Wikipedia article, but also the number of languages in which the article is, as well as the number of hits and completeness of its biography. It is no longer possible then to assemble this process into a simple mathematical formula.
The results of this “celebrity ranking” should be viewed with extreme caution. However, the data does at least provide reasonable patterns. In the Middle Ages, for example, the church and the nobility made up most of the known people; Today, culture and sports dominate. In the 16th century, most of the explorers and inventors came from Spain and Portugal, and later most of them came from France and Great Britain.
