German volleyball players won their last endurance test before the World Cup and made an impressive comeback.
At the dress rehearsal on Saturday (September 17, 2022), national coach Vital Heinen’s team defeated Olympic silver medalist Brazil 3:2 (23:25, 16:25, 25:21, 25:19, 15:13). Germany was already 0:2 behind in Berlin, but then managed to catch up.
The World Cup will begin next week in the Netherlands and Poland (September 23 to October 15), and Germany meets Bulgaria on September 25 in Arnhem. The other contenders in the challenging third group are Olympic champions USA and world champion Serbia as well as Canada and Kazakhstan.
Heinen: “The strongest group”
Heinen sees the group as “the strongest in the tournament, with two absolutely world-class teams vying to win the group. Canada, Bulgaria and Germany will be the three teams vying for progress.”
The top four teams in each group advance to the second round. In this way, the German women failed in the last World Cup in Japan 2018, and eventually reached the eleventh place there.
