German Hollywood director Roland Emmerich wants to shoot one last movie – then bid his well-deserved retirement. He has now announced it himself.

Roland Emmerich (67) is considered the most successful German director in Hollywood. This still untitled project should remain Emmerich’s last project. “This is the last movie I want to do,” explains the US-based director.

Roland Emmerich: “The system won’t work anymore”

He asks himself “whether there will come a time when people will no longer be able to live in the country in which they were born – because of heat, because of lack of water, because of hunger.” This will lead to the “migration of peoples who will be very cruel.” Emmerich is sure: “The system won’t work anymore if millions of people suddenly make the trip and go to another country.”

The star director does not yet know what will happen after the end of his now announced career. But he wanted to read a lot, draw a little and “just have fun.” However, it is important for the Hollywood heavyweight, who was born in Stuttgart, to be aware in advance of his almost choreographed film about environmental disasters. “[…] I really want to bring this message to the screen. In my opinion, the only way to wake people up is when they are seriously afraid of something.”
