The Northern Ireland protocol may be ready for a ruling. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak plans to present the treaty to parliament on Monday, but that is not guaranteed, according to Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar.

Sunak will have to get behind him Northern Ireland’s largest Protestant unionist party, the Democratic Unionist Party and Britain’s Conservative European Union Party. Protesting the Northern Ireland Protocol, the DUP has been blocking the formation of a government in the British part of the country for months.
The Northern Ireland Protocol is part of the Treaty on Britain’s Exit from the European Union. It was negotiated by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson against the will of the DUP and enabled an orderly exit from the European Union.
