Regensburg.subordinate The World Baseball Classic Qualification Championship is open. The official start of this year’s European Baseball Championship was given with a festive party on Friday. The first of the nine World Cup qualifiers has already taken place. In a thrilling duel, tournament favorites Spain maintained the upper hand with 5:4 against South Africa.
Justin Connell put the Iberians ahead with a singles match at home against Justin Erasmus, who is known in the Bundesliga. Otherwise, the former Heidenheimer gave a strong performance. Only after replacing the previous Heydkov did the Spaniards increase their lead to 2-0. Connell circled the bases again.
Then hit the South Africans. In the seventh inning, Tyrone Milne and Benjamin Smith tied 2-2. On the other hand, Spain immediately got the right answer. With three runs, the 2013 WBC finalist reclaimed the lead in direct revenue. However, South Africa did not surrender and came back again, but the Iberians kept their nerve.
Spain will meet the Czech Republic on Saturday (1 pm). For the match winner, Tuesday is the first two spots for the World Baseball Classic in March 2023. The German national team will take part in the event on Saturday evening (7 p.m.). National head coach Steve Jansen’s squad has to deal with Great Britain, who prevailed on Friday night 14:4 against France. Germany can go straight to the first final to claim a World Cup ticket with their victory.
