Emmanuel Church in Weston is presenting its third annual Broadway Bound: A Tribute to WHS Company. This year’s event will feature the cast from Company’s spring musical, South Pacific, preceded by a short musical program by the faculty of Weston Music Center. Weston High School senior Stephen Blinder wants to bring music to the area to unite people. “Music for me is more than a passion,” Blinder said. “In a world where we have so much conflict and division, music can unite people, it can transcend all of the boundaries that we face.” Stephen is bringing his mentor, Weston High alumnus Arthur Lipner, to the Weston High School auditorium for a concert on Friday, Feb. 9. Trumpeter and Weston High School senior Jane Paknia won the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestra (GBYO) 2018 Concerto Competition. The finals of the competition were performed for the public recently at the Pequot Library in partnership with Music for Youth. GBYO’s most accomplished young musicians auditioned in November to advance to the final round and vie for the chance to perform as soloist with the Principal Orchestra at GBYO’s annual Spring Concert in May. In an effort to save costs, Weston High School announced last week that its annual graduation ceremony will be held in the school gymnasium this year, rather than under an outdoor tent at the school as it has done in the past. But fallout from the tent decision has gotten “intense,” leading to opposition from students in a petition drive. Beauty and Despair, a one-man photographic exhibit of the work of Weston High School senior Thomas Bogaev, opens at the Rockwell Art Gallery in Wilton on Nov. 16 and runs through the end of the month. A number of the photographs at Rockwell have already sold, and others were successfully auctioned off at an earlier music fund-raiser this month. Photographer Daryl Hawk, a fan of Bogaev’s work, bid for a portrait of a Native American.
