Bassey was adopted as exclusive orders

Born in the Welsh capital Cardiff to an English mother and a Nigerian father, Bassey was made a tom – the equivalent of a knighthood for men – at the turn of the millennium.

Earlier this year, he was accepted into the Order of Companions of Honor, an exclusive circle of a maximum of 65 members. Awarding of State Medals will take place a few months after the announcement.

The singer is best known for his James Bond theme songs

Bassey started his career in the 1950s. Internationally he is particularly known for the James Bond films “Goldfinger” and the theme songs for “Diamonds Are Forever” (German title: “Diamondenfiber”) and “Moonraker”. He also enjoyed success with “Big Spender”, “Something” and “Everybody Knows”.
