Science – Bremen – The Bremen Senate approves a campus in the city center – Knowledge

Bremen (dpa/lni) – In the future there will be a student campus in the city center of Bremen. The Bremen Senate, state government and municipal executive spoke in favor of this on Tuesday. As early as 2025, the University of Bremen could partially move, said science senator Claudia Schilling (SPD).

It is still not clear how many students will be accommodated in the new building. The scientific fields that will be affected by the plan have not been clarified. A property belonging to Norddeutsche Landesbank am Domshof will be leased, negotiations are ongoing. Schilling said the buildings are in very good shape. The building is a new building from 2016.

The Bremen Senate also decided to prepare for the sale of a multi-storey car park. This is the Mitte multi-storey car park in the city center of Bremen. The multi-storey car park will be sold by Brepark, a municipal company, to Brebau, a housing association. A so-called letter of intent, a declaration of intent between a buyer and seller, should be available by the end of the year. The property will be used in a different way than before. It is not clear how much money will be invested in both projects.

“This is a good day for the future of downtown Bremen,” said Andreas Bovencholt, Mayor of Bremen. “Both the new building on the site of the Mitte parking garage and the inner city campus will mean a real increase in the city’s attractiveness.”
