macOS Ventura brings new features to your Mac.

macOS Ventura was released today. This is all new to Apple’s desktop operating system.

Starting today, the latest version of Apple’s macOS desktop operating system is available as a free update. Like all recent versions of macOS, macOS 13 Ventura is named after areas and landmarks in California, the home of Apple. It is generally compatible with all Macs released after 2017.

Ventura’s biggest innovation is Stage Manager, a new window management option. The feature is also coming to iPadOS 16, the operating system for Apple tablets, which is also released today. With Stage Manager, the focus is entirely on the application currently in use. Other open windows appear in a small format on the left side of the screen.

In Stage Manager, inactive windows are moved to the left edge.

iPhone as a webcam

The camera delivery is new, too. The iPhone camera can be used as a webcam on a Mac. Until recently, the webcams built into MacBooks were known primarily for their poor image quality.

With the delivery of the camera, there are now also some special functions, so thanks to the wide-angle camera, the office area in front of the keyboard can also be photographed. Teachers can use this, for example, to explain arithmetic tasks on a piece of paper during distance learning.

Inspired by iOS

Then there are innovations that run parallel to the new features of iOS 16. iMessages can be edited or recalled for a specified period, as with emails. Passkeys are intended to replace passwords with biometric features and thus increase security.

Also inspired by iOS and iPadOS, the new design of System Settings. Individual options can now be called up in a sidebar like on mobile devices, which Apple says should make things more clear.
