Global logistics company opens new distribution facility. Gateway to European markets

GXO will conduct its implementation activities from a new 646,000 square meter distribution facility in a central location of Heerlen, the Netherlands. The US company estimates that once the plant is fully operational, it will create more than 1,500 new jobs in the region. The office there will act as the central logistical hub for JD Sports’ activities in Europe with 3,300 stores in 32 countries.

We are pleased to expand our partnership with JD Sports in the Netherlands, which complements our existing operations with JD Sports’ Go Outdoors brand in the UK, said Richard Causton, GXO’s Head of Europe.

“The agreement with one of the world’s leading retailers reinforces our position as a major provider of multi-channel logistics solutions,” said Causton.

The plant will be equipped with the latest technology and automation solutions and can be expanded in the future. The distribution center is also built to the BREEAM “Very Good” standard and features optimal lighting and rooftop solar panels, providing the distribution center and 2,000 households with renewable electricity.
