Eva Kaylie is still in jail – corruption in the EU Parliament

Francesco Giorgi, detained in a corruption scandal in the European Union, is allowed to leave prison subject to conditions. The Italian must continue to be held under house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet, the Brussels prosecutor announced after a decision by the responsible council. Giorgi is the partner of the former Vice President of the European Parliament, Eva Kayli, who is also detained. Prosecutors said they would not appeal Thursday night’s decision.

It is about corruption and money laundering

The bribery scandal, which was revealed on December 9, concerns the alleged influence on decisions of the European Union Parliament by the governments of Qatar and Morocco. The public prosecutor accuses the defendants of corruption, money laundering and belonging to a criminal organization.

In addition to Kylie, alleged mastermind Antonio Panzieri is also in custody. In January, he signed an agreement with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, in which he promised to make a comprehensive contribution to clarifying the scandal. Giorgi recently worked in the office of Italian deputy Andrea Cozzolino, who was also arrested for possible involvement in the scandal.
