  • The railway workers’ strike has begun in the UK.
  • British media reported that in the afternoon there were practically no trains left.
  • Road rail operators are demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

The fronts of disagreement over wages intensified. The strike called by the RMT union is not expected to end until December 27. Despite the strike, the majority of the planned repair work in the rail network will take place.

Border officials are doing their job, too

The AA Motorists Association predicted a major disruption. According to estimates, there were around 17 million cars on British roads on Saturday alone. Because of the heavy rain, there were already kilometers of traffic jams on Friday.

In addition, border officials have gone on strike at several airports since Friday, including important London airports such as Heathrow and Gatwick. In some cases, soldiers took over passport control. However, long lines upon entry were warned. There is no official passport control when leaving the UK. The strike is expected to last until New Year’s Eve.
