Börse Express – CloudStack Now ShapeBlue is an Employee Owned Company

CloudStack ShapeBlue announced today that it is now a 100% employee-owned business: wholly owned by its employees for the benefit of its employees.

100% of the company’s stock is now owned by an Employees Trust for the benefit of its employees, while the current leadership team remains in place without any planned changes to the company’s strategy.

With offices in London, Bangalore, Cape Town and Sao Paulo, the company is the largest independent integrator of CloudStack technologies in the world. The transition to employee ownership was chosen as a mechanism to protect the company’s long-term mission and participate in the Apache CloudStack open source project, spreading corporate value among its team.

Giles Serrett, CEO of ShapeBlue commented, “I am very proud that ShapeBlue is now 100% employee owned. This secures our future as an independent company and allows us to continue serving our customers through our deep involvement in Apache CloudStack.”

Sirett also said, “This change in ownership has no impact on our growth, technology strategies, service offerings, or day-to-day operations, which means that the change in the hands of employees does not affect our mission or ambitions as a company. Our leadership team remains unchanged and I very much look forward to leading The company is in this next stage of development. However, our overall goal is changing – we are no longer a company whose primary goal is to make profits for a small group of shareholders. The absolute power and value in this business has shifted from its shareholders into the hands of the people who create that value: its people.”

Employee ownership is one of the fastest growing forms of corporate ownership. There are now over 1,000 employee-owned companies in the UK alone, with the sector doubling in size in the past three years.

The rapid growth of companies has accelerated with the use of employee trusts, introduced by the UK government in 2014 to encourage long-term employee ownership. Today, one in 20 private companies from corporate sales is an employee trust fund. ShapeBlue is now part of a network of UK employee trusts that also includes Richer Sounds and Go Ape.

James De Le Feng, CEO of the Employee Ownership Association (EOA), said: “We congratulate ShapeBlue on transitioning to employee ownership and securing the company’s spirit, values and culture. Companies that empower employees to have a say, build trust and shared responsibility, unite leaders and employees behind a common goal, and allow organizations to be more resilient and adaptive.”
