Weston police chief to talk town and school safety

Weston Police Chief John Troxell expresses his desire to hire more officers. —Bryan Haeffele photoWith the Newtown shootings fresh on the minds of residents, the Weston Democratic Town Committee (DTC) will sponsor an address by Weston police Chief John Troxell on Wednesday, April 10, at 8 p.m. in the town hall Meeting Room.

“The State of Security and Public Safety in Town and on the School Campus,” Chief Troxell’s presentation, will focus on public awareness of what the town needs to do to enhance safety post-Sandy Hook.

“School campus security regarding the Mile of Safety officer in conjunction with a school resource officer in concert with additional school security staff is what I am particularly focused on discussing,” Chief Troxell said.

Police staffing, training and equipment will be three areas the chief will address.

“I want to provide real information in order that residents can make informed decisions about present and future Police Department operations and budgets,” Chief Troxell added.

“Bring your questions to the meeting,” advised Beth Gralnick, vice chairman of the Police Commission. “Chief Troxell is looking forward to an exchange of ideas on this serious topic.”

Barbara Reynolds, DTC chairman, encourages all residents to attend the presentation.

Light refreshments will be served.

For more information, call Ms. Gralnick, 203-227-1690.
