Bigelow, Crumpton win Malin Award

Weston eighth grade students Matt Bigelow and Isa Crumpton were the recipients of the 2017 Clem Malin Award from the Weston Lacrosse Club.

The Weston Lacrosse Club has presented the 2017 Clem Malin Award to Matt Bigelow and Isa Crumpton. The award recognizes eighth grade players in the boys and girls programs who have demonstrated athletic skills, leadership and sportsmanship in the game of lacrosse, as well as academic achievement and community service during their years leading up to high school.

Bigelow, has been playing lacrosse and a leader on the field since second grade. Following his fifth and sixth grade seasons, he played summer lacrosse with many of his Weston teammates for the Connecticut chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation club team, Lax for Wishes, raising money and awareness for the charity that grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

This past spring, he helped coordinate a head shave and fund-raiser with teammate Jack Morvillo for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, raising money for childhood cancer research. Bigelow currently volunteers with the second grade boys as an assistant/junior coach.

Crumpton, is captain of her team and a player with accomplishments and leadership both on and off the field. A solid A-student, she excels in both French and math while also working with the Short Wharf Drama Club and volunteering for the Weston Booster Barn during varsity and junior varsity games this spring. She will play for the Gold Coast Lacrosse Club this summer. Her fierce determination started at birth with her surviving an against-the-odds 11-week premature birth, weighing only two pounds, 10 ounces. She battled two abdominal surgeries and was given only a 15% chance of survival.
