Georgetown Fire Department seeks donations for Sandy relief

The Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department is accepting the following donations for the Breezy Point neighborhood in Queens, N.Y. and surrounding community that were decimated by the storm.

Clothing, shoes, pillows, bedding, blankets, towels,  and non-perishable food are needed, as well as toiletries (toothpaste, tooth brushes, toilet paper, paper towels), bottled water, batteries, flashlights, brooms, pet food, diapers, dry formula, baby wipes and hearing aid batteries.

“For area fire departments, please be advised that the Breezy Point Volunteer Fire Department is in dire need for turnout gear, helmets, boots, gloves, flashlights, portable radios, generators, portable pumps, etc.,” the Georgetown department said in its release.

Drop off all donations at the Georgetown Firehouse, 6 Portland Avenue, Georgetown. The firehouse is open for donations every day from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. until Tuesday, Nov. 13.

“It would greatly help if your donations are well packaged and labeled. And please help us spread the word,” the department said.
